Description:

It is normal for us to use the speech recognition of our mobile phones when we want to find out the fastest way home. But actually, recognizing our language correctly, is not an easy task for a computer. When we speak, we blend multiple letters to a sound or make no pauses between the words. Each one of us also speaks differently due to our own accent or dialect. “Talk to me” shows us the processes necessary in the background for a machine to recognize our speech. Its neural network was trained with hundreds of hours of voice recordings in English and German in order to be able to detect every letter as correctly as possible.

Dieser Film erklärt, wie Dichteunterschiede zwischen Wassermassen zur Entstehung von Meeresströmungen in unseren Ozeanen führen.

Mithilfe von Computern können diese Prozesse präzise simuliert werden. Das zu Grunde liegende Konzept kann man aber auch mit einem einfachen Experiment nachvollziehen, das sich auch leicht zu Hause durchführen lässt. Dazu braucht man nur zwei Plastikflaschen, Strohhalmen und etwas farbigen Fruchtsirup…

Genomics Youth Camp in Karachi

LGM2014 findet vom 2. bis 5. April in Leipzig statt und wird Workshops für Künstler und ca. 90 anregende Vorträge bieten, bei denen neue und künftige Projekte wie Tupi, Kune, Synfig und Laidout, ebenso wie etablierte Projekte wie GIMP, Krita, Inkscape, Scribus und Blender vorgestellt werden.

Seit 2006 ist das Libre Graphics Meeting die wichtigste Austauschplattform für Entwickler von freier Software für Künstler. Die Teilnahme ist umsonst und für alle Interessenten möglich. Um Anmeldung wird gebeten.

SURFER wird beim Libre Graphics Meeting gezeigt werden. Unser Echtzeit-Raytracer algebraischer Flächen wird zum ersten Mal dem Fachpublikum von Open-source-Graphikern und Informatikern vorgestellt werden.
