Willkommen! The German Version of IMAGINARY is online!

Today we inaugurate the German version of the IMAGINARY platform. You can now switch to “deutsch” using the language selector on top of the page or open the German version of IMAGINARY directly through: www. imaginary.org/de

We are very happy to announce this new language (after English and Spanish) and this way remember the roots of our IMAGINARY project: the German Year of Mathematics 2008. In 2008, we started with a traveling exhibition in Germany, in German language, and then got on tour for several years: staging exhibitions, organizing events, expanding its contents, translating texts and general networkinhg…

Thanks to all people who helped us in translating the contents to German! Our community is are already working on new translations, the next planned langauge is French.

AI Jam at the MS Wissenschaft German Science Boat

AI Jam is a software exhibit that plays musical duets with visitors. Its purpose is to show ways in which artificial intelligence can be used to produce music along with humans.

Visitors interact with it using a piano keyboard and drum pads, which makes the interaction simple and natural. A screen shows the notes played (both by human and AI), and provides some limited selection of playing parameters and modes.

MS Wissenschaft – Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence (AI) - What exactly is AI? Do people and machines learn in similar or different ways? What are the benefits and risks of AI? The exhibition on board the MS Wissenschaft in 2019 showcases hands-on exhibits, which demonstrate current research and provides insight into the development and application of Artificial Intelligence.

Visitors can experience for example how image and voice recognition work. Whether you’re an AI professional or just a beginner, you can test and expand your knowledge about Artificial Intelligence. At another exhibit, guests help to build a database for AI training. Chess players can compete with the historical computer KC85. Music enthusiasts can compose music together with AI and judge for themselves whether creativity plays a role. Sports fans can play against a virtual handball goalkeeper and art lovers can transform their own image into an impressionist artwork using an “intelligent” mirror.

The exhibition is a central component of the German Science Year 2019 – Artificial Intelligence, announced by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and Wissenschaft im Dialog (Science in Dialogue, WiD). The exhibition is intended particularly for schools, young people and families and is recommended for visitors 12 years and over. Admission is free.

The tour will start in Berlin, where the exhibition will be open during the following times:

Thursday, 16.05., 13:30–19:00
Friday, 17.05., 10:00–19:00
Saturday, 18.05., 10:00–19:00
Sunday, 19.05., 10:00–19:00

Best of IMAGINARY – all in one box! (German edition)

Just in time for Christmas, IMAGINARY is proud to present our latest product, the IMAGINARY-Entdeckerbox – a box that contains a fine selection of all things IMAGINARY (in German). It is a mix of both physical and electronic materials – 3D sculptures, posters, craft supplies, a Live-DVD with a cocktail of software and films, 3D-glasses … even a book with previously unedited material by Russian problem-solving superstar Vladimir Arnold! It contains all ingredients to make eyes and minds sparkle in Mathematics classes, friends of IMAGINARY or anyone interested to set up their own mini-IMAGINARY exhibition!

The Mathematics behind the different elements of the Entdeckerbox can be discovered playfully and interactively. They are designed with the intention to provide scope for experimentation and extension. All contents are, in the usual IMAGINARY tradition, open source and can be freely copied and passed on.

The Entdeckerbox can be ordered here. The no-profit price of 99 Euros includes shipment (in Germany). The 3d prints are supported by our partner trinckle.com. The Entdeckerbox project is made possible through support by the Klaus Tschira Stiftung in collaboration with the Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut Oberwolfach. All printed and electronic materials are also freely accessible for download.

Math Creations at German patent and trademark office

When the collaborative research centers “Discretization in Geometry and Dynamics” and “Space - Time - Matter. Analytic and Geometric Structures” were looking for ways to better communicate their research, they came up with an unusual idea—a contest for art, design and mathematics.

IMAGINARY lead the coordination of the contest. All artworks will be published under a creative commons license on the IMAGINARY platform.

The Math Creations project not only disseminates the scientific results of the two collaborative research centers to a wider community, it hopefully inspires more researchers to reach out and connect with other disciplines. Through the Math Creations project the fun and excitement of mathematics is shared and an interest and appreciation of science in the general public is cultivated by combining it with art and design.

Panel Talk on "Transdisciplinarity and Participation in Civil Security Research" at Partwiss 24 in Berlin

The panel at PartWiss24 will highlight BeLIFE’s multidimensional approach to knowledge transfer, emphasizing transdisciplinarity and active participation. Contributions include a knowledge management system for mutual learning, multimodal tools for engaging policymakers, and an augmented reality simulation to enhance disaster awareness.

IMAGINARY will also discuss how civil society can actively participate in SifoLIFE’s knowledge transfer through a traveling exhibition. Interactive exhibits engage the public in discussions on key security topics, promoting co-creation rather than one-way information sharing.

The panel will underline the transformative potential of inclusive and innovative methods for addressing complex security challenges and fostering greater societal resilience by showcasing these approaches.
