IMAGINARY at Clore Garden of Science

This exhibition is part of a project funded by the German Ministry of Education and Research under the brandname Research in Germany. This is the first of two IMAGINARY exhibitions in Israel in 2015. The second exhibition will be at Bar Ilan University towards the end of the year.

STEAM Hub (MINT&ART)

STEAM Hub  Das Netzwerk für Wissenstransfer und innovative Geschäftsmodelle in der Kommunikation von MINT und Kunst (STEAM)   Projektbeschreibung

STEAM Hub ist ein Projekt im Rahmen der Förderinitiative “Innovationsforen Mittelstand” des Bundesministeriums für Bildung und Forschung. Der Name setzt sich aus der Übersetzung von MINT und Kunst (STEM und Art) zusammen. STEAM Hub soll kleine und mittlere Unternehmen (KMU) aus den Bereichen Wissenschaftskommunikation, Kreation und Medien zusammenbringen, um gemeinsam Marktinnovationen und alternative Geschäftsmodelle zu entwickeln. Auch, um für junge Menschen Mathematik, Informatik und Naturwissenschaften attraktiver zu vermitteln, um sie für Studium und Beruf in diesen Bereichen zu begeistern.

Die Initiative unterstützt und fördert Kooperationen zwischen Wissenschaft und Wirtschaft mit einem Netzwerk, das zu nachhaltigen strategische Allianzen führen wird. Dieses Netzwerk verbindet Wissenschaftsmuseen, Science Center, Wissenschaftsinstitutionen, Kreativ- und Medienagenturen, Kunstschaffende sowie Technologieunternehmen und Stiftungen miteinander. Zentrales Element bildet ein zweitägiges “Innovationsforum”, auf dem gemeinsam Ideen (weiter)entwickelt und mit marktfähigen Geschäftsmodellen verknüpft werden sollen. So begünstigt das Forum nicht nur erfolgreiche Kooperationen, sondern bestimmt auch die Richtung des zukünftigen Netzwerks.

  Projektziele

Das STEAM Hub Projekt

  • schafft ein Netzwerk an kleinen und mittleren Unternehmen (KMU) aus dem STEAM Bereich

  • entwickelt und fördert Ideen und Technologien für neue und komplexe wissenschaftliche Exponate (physisch, virtuell und interaktiv) im STEAM Bereich, in Kooperation mit KMU und wissenschaftlichen Institutionen

  • bietet eine offen Webplattform um Informationen und Wissen auszutauschen, gemeinsam Projekte anzustoßen und eigene Produkte vorzustellen

  • identifiziert innovative Möglichkeiten um die Attraktivität von STEAM Disziplinen für junge Menschen zu erhöhen.

  • bringt KMU und andere Partner aus dem Bereich Wissenschaftskommunikation bei einem “Innovationsforum” zusammen

     

Innovationsthemen

Folgende vier Innovationskategorien sind geplant:

  • Hardwareinnovationen (Design und Umsetzung von neuen Technologien)

  • Softwareinnovationen (Kreation von Software-basierten Exponaten)

  • Hot Topics (Themen- und Medientrends wie Künstliche Intelligenz, Big Data, Datensicherheit u. v. m.)

  • Marketinginnovationen

IMAGINARY in Heidelberg

In Heidelberg, Deutschland, gibt es vom 20. Juli bis zum 10. August eine große IMAGINARY-Ausstellung! Das Kulturhaus Karlstorbahnhof ist ein attraktiver Veranstaltungsort mit sogar einem eigenen Kino.

Die Ausstellung hat vier Stationen:

  1. der wohlbekannte IMAGINARY-cube, der faszinierende Bilder algebraischer Flächen zeigt,
  2. interaktive Programme und Installationen wie SURFER, jReality oder Cinderella,
  3. 3D-Skulpturen von algebraischen Flächen,
  4. mehrere interaktive Stationen des phaeno museums, Wolfsburg.

Dies ist die erste IMAGINARY-Ausstellung in Heidelberg. Sie wird in Zusammenarbeit mit der Heidelberg Laureate Forum Foundation (HLFF) veranstaltet, das das jährliche Heidelberg Laureate Forum organisiert.

Drone in Greenland

The captured material was used to analyse the calving activity of the Bowdoin Glacier in 2015 by combining satellite images, UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) photogrammetry and ice flow modelling. In particular, a high-resolution displacement field is inferred from UAV orthoimages taken immediately before and after the initiation of a large fracture, which induced a major calving event. A detailed analysis of the strain rate field allows to accurately map the path taken by the opening crack.

The film as well as the study demonstrates that the combination of UAV photogrammetry and ice flow modelling is a promising tool to horizontally and vertically track the propagation of fractures responsible for large calving events.

Making of - I AM A.I.

Zum Tag der Stiftungen präsentieren wir in einer online Videokonferenz die Hintergründe, Herausforderungen und Geschichten zur Entwicklung der verschiedenen Kommunikationsformate unserer Ausstellung „I AM A. I. - Künstliche Intelligenz erklärt“.

Das digitale Ausstellungsformat I AM A. I.  geht in fünf „Pfaden“ den Kernfragen rund um Künstliche Intelligenz nach: Wie lernt ein Neuronales Netzwerk? Macht eine Künstliche Intelligenz Fehler? Was sind Trainingsdaten? Die Pfade beinhalten Software-Programme, Bilder, Videos, Experimente für zu Hause und Erklärtexte. Dabei wird die Erkennung der Handschrift trainiert, Brettspiele mit einer KI gespielt und eine der wichtigsten Methoden der Künstlichen Intelligenz, das Gradientenverfahren, veranschaulicht. Zusätzlich werden die Inhalte der Ausstellung gemeinsam mit einer Ausstellungstutorin in einem interaktiven Videoformat vertieft.

Für Schulklassen werden kostenfrei virtuelle Führungen angeboten. Anfragen bitte an ai@imaginary.org

Das digitale Ausstellungskonzept wurde entwickelt, da die für 2020 geplante Wanderausstellung I AM A. I. aufgrund von Covid-19 verschoben werden musste.
Ab 2021 ist die vollständige Ausstellung mit weiteren spannenden Exponaten als physische Wanderausstellung in Jena, Heidelberg und Kaiserslautern zu sehen.

Die Ausstellung I AM A. I. wird von IMAGINARY entwickelt und ist von der Carl-Zeiss-Stiftung finanziert.

Beschreibung

Description: 

The generator writes encoded information about the existing symmetries in the jpg image file generated. Then the classifier reads and interprets this coded information, which allows it (according to the level of aid chosen) to give information about how the classification process is going, preventing wrong choices, or only indicating at the end whether the classification is correct and, if not, indicating the first mistake.

GeCla also includes a competition option that can be used via the Internet. In it, each player generates a pre-agreed number of images and then both exchange images and each classifies the other’s images. All steps are managed by the program, which in the end provides a report on eventual mistakes.

GeGla was developed by the portuguese association Atractor, after its previous DVD-program “Symmetry - the dynamical way”. GeCla was designed attempting to be attractive and accessible to students of various levels of education. GeCla is available in Portuguese, English, Italian, German and Spanish.

Science Spaces Workshop in Vietnam

Teams of high school students from three schools in Ho Chi Minh City together with guides from IMAGINARY developed science exhibits, which will be presented after the workshop in their schools. The workshop was organized by the Goetheinstitut of Vietnam and took place in the Vietnamese German University (VGU).
