Mathematics can give rise to some of the most beautiful forms. And everyone can see – and hear – at this year’s George Enescu Festival.

The George Enescu Festival (also known as George Enescu International Festival and Competition), held in honor of the celebrated Romanian composer George Enescu, is the biggest classical music festival and classical international competition held in Romania and one of the biggest in Eastern Europe.

A fascinating exhibition of interactive mathematics is on display within the program Music of the 21st Century. It is the first time that the successful “IMAGINARY – through the eyes of mathematics” exhibition will be shown in Romania. Over the past seven years, the exhibition has toured 50 countries and attracted more than 2.5 million people. As well as illustrating the beauty of mathematics, the exhibition lets visitors create their own mathematical art using special software. And as a special feature five new applications visualize and melodize the relation of mathematics and music. Now visitors can connect mathematical rules to rhythmical patterns or compose new pieces of music from Mozart samples.
