For Futurium’s new theme, Future Fields, IMAGINARY has developed the interactive exhibit “Future Landscape Simulator”.

Land is more than just ground beneath our feet. It can be farmland, habitat, building site, or a place left to nature. Every choice about its use comes with consequences. “The Future Landscape Simulator” invites visitors to step into these decisions: Should we grow food, expand cities, or restore ecosystems? Should we prioritise short-term needs or long-term sustainability?

The “Future Landscape Simulator” turns abstract global challenges like urban development, food production, and nature conservation into concrete choices: How does unchecked urban growth reshape the future? What changes would happen if forests were brought back on a large scale? And what are the consequences if intensive farming persists or transforms into more sustainable methods?

The “Future Landscape Simulator” is powered by mathematical models, similar to those applied in environmental planning. Drawing on real-world data, visitors can explore different land-use scenarios. The consequences of these choices are immediately visible via notifications. The simulator reveals how closely ecological, social, and economic factors are connected, showing that even small actions can have significant consequences.

The opening of the exhibit takes place on September 14, 2025.
