On October 20, during the Open Day of the Computer Science Department at TU Delft, visitors can explore one of the key challenges in data science: how to visualize data in more than three dimensions.

This interactive workshop, given by Assistant Professor Dr. Martin Skrodzki, is aimed at high school students. Volunteers from the audience will help collect real data on stage. Together, the speaker and the audience will discuss why visualizing data is straightforward when it has fewer than four dimensions but becomes much trickier as the number of dimensions grows.

Participants will learn how advanced techniques like t-SNE help tackle this problem and how these methods rely on Gradient Descent, a core concept in modern AI. To make the idea tangible, everyone will play IMAGINARY’s online game “Gradient Descent”, turning an abstract mathematical idea into a fun, hands-on experience.
